This print is a relief print made with styrofoam
as the 'plate' material. The image is created by pressing into the styrofoam (the same material as used in meat packaging) with an object like a stick or blunt needle making an indentation in the surface. Ink is then rolled onto the surface of the foam which leaves the indentation uninked. The styrofoam 'plate is cut into sections, each of which are coloured separately - the pieces are re-assembled as above and pressed onto paper, tranferring the ink. Only three colours and three pressings were used. They are translucent process colours yellow, cyan and magenta. For example, the cyan printed over the yellow produces the green. This is one of eighteen in a series of prints made this way. A very small edition of each image was made - only one to four prints in each edition. See also Window 7. |
